This is from a series of engravings by Italian artist Paolo Fidanza after Raphael's (a.k.a. Rafaello Sanzio d'Urbino) paintings in the Vatican. Italian text at the bottom describes who the portrait is of. The artist chose many famous & illustrious figures including philosophers, emperors and poets. He traced the outline of the heads directly from Raphael's paintings and then interpreted them into an engraved portrait. This is from an unbound book, the cover of which says it was printed in 1769.

Condition is: Great. Some discoloration around the edges of the paper due to age.

Paolo Fidanza, 18^th century Italian artist

Fidanza produced his own paintings and prints at his studio in Rome but also created prints that were reproductions of famous paintings for distribution throughout Europe so that renowned works could be studied by other artists and art students. Art collectors sought these reproductive prints and they helped American colonial-era artists learn their craft.
