Luis Sottil

Luis Sottil was born in Mexico City in 1959 and was raised in Tampico, Mexico. Surrounded by the beauty of his homeland Sottil fell in love with nature, which is reflected in his artwork. He began drawing at an early age, and continued throughout his childhood. He created his own style he calls ?Naturalismo?. To create this unique style he uses natural pigments from many different sources such as mother-of-pear, vegetable roots, minerals, and the rare cochinilla beetle shell only found in certain areas of Mexico. This creates his own unique paint in which he uses to paint over a rich coat of gold leaf that serves as the background to each painting. The end product is a vibrant blend of colors and light creating the feeling of natures innocence.
